Welcome to the XXIV Argentine Diabetes Congress

Abstract

Dear members of the diabetes health team: with great enthusiasm and honor I welcome you to the XXIV Argentine Diabetes Congress. As President of the Argentine Diabetes Society (SAD) it is a true privilege receive them at this long-awaited event.

This year the SAD celebrates its 70th anniversary and its Graduate School its 50th anniversary. We want to mark this special occasion by sharing knowledge to improve the quality of life of people with diabetes and enjoying moments of camaraderie and friendship.

The Pre-Congress activity, coordinated by the Cuyo Chapter of the SAD, will include a program of workshops aimed at health teams and the community. The Run/Walk will also take place “SAD Run”, an event aimed at Congress participants and the community that highlights the health team's commitment to physical activity as an essential tool in the treatment of diabetes.

The Scientific Committee of the Congress, chaired by Dr. Carla Musso, prepared a first-class program, with presentations by renowned national and international speakers. This year's theme, “70 years of researching, educating and building the future,” reflects our ongoing commitment to improving the quality of care and the lives of people. people with diabetes.

Among the notable topics that we will address at the Congress are the new diagnostic approach to type 1 diabetes and the possible delay in its onset, the comprehensive management of obesity, the approach to prediabetes, and the early detection and treatment of comorbidities and complications associated with diabetes. In addition, multiple workshops and talks will be held with experts in technology, education, nutrition and physical activity.

We will have the participation of Diabetes Societies from Bolivia, Paraguay, Chile, Uruguay and Peru in a joint activity that will analyze women's health in the region. The activities of the SAD Committees and Chapters will also be presented, promoting a space for collaboration and camaraderie.

We are pleased to announce the conferences and the awarding of the Bernardo Houssay Medals in Basic Research and Pedro Escudero Medals in Clinical Research, honoring two outstanding teachers of our community: Prof. Dr. Edgardo Poskus and Dr. Isaac Sinay, whose contributions to the Science and advancement in the field of diabetes are invaluable.

Since 2009, the SAD has strengthened research through the provision of subsidies. This year seven will be awarded, including two in basic sciences, two in epidemiology, two in clinical research and a special one focused on “Diabetes in hospitalization.” In addition, the best works presented at the Congress will be awarded in the categories of basic and clinical research. The winners of these distinctions will be announced at the Closing Ceremony on Saturday, October 26. I want to express my deepest gratitude to the entire team of professionals who have worked tirelessly to make this event possible; Their dedication and effort are fundamental to the success of the Congress, as well as our secretaries, whose contribution is essential to achieve our objectives. We also thank the industry pharmaceutical companies, technology companies and associations of people with diabetes for their constant support, enriching our efforts.
