Abstract

The treatment of diabetic foot ulcers must be comprehensive. In the orthopedic examination, an adequate evaluation of the axes is important, as well as the prevention of hypersupports, and it is essential that an adequate discharge is provided when there is an ulcer; this constitutes the fundamental pillar of its treatment.

Depending on the location of the ulcer, there are different discharges. If it is located on the dorsal part of the foot, a type of shoe that avoids pressure will be required. Several international guidelines recommend the use of an offloading device, shoe modifications, interdigital separator or orthosis according to the type and location of the ulcer.
