Abstract

The changes in lipid levels during pregnancy aim to provide substrates for membrane formation, hormone synthesis, and the creation of energy stores necessary for fetal development. Numerous studies show a progressive physiological increase in lipid levels from the end of the first trimester to the third, and these changes are more pronounced in the presence of obesity. There is no consensus on the values that should be considered normal. This article discusses the physiological and pathophysiological changes in lipids during pregnancy and analyzes the indications and evidence for both nutritional and pharmacological treatment.
