Abstract

I sit down to write these words, and I can't help but feel deeply honored by the life that made Carmen my teacher and professional guide.

I met her when I was 20, when my friend Irina invited me to spend Christmas with her family. Carmen welcomed me with her turkey, her unforgettable gazpacho, and an enormous affection and warmth that she shared with sensitivity and generosity with her friends, her friends' friends, and her children's friends.
