Abstract

Diabetes mellitus and its complications are rapidly becoming the most significant cause of morbidity and mortality. It is predicted that by 2040 there will be 642 million people with diabetes in the world, with an incidence of foot ulcers of more than 25%. That is why we must focus on the prevention of such injuries rather than on their treatment. Diabetes morbidity rates are exaggeratedly high, and five-year mortality rates, after amputation of a lower limb, is only the second cause after lung cancer.
