The Graduate School of the Argentine Diabetes Society (SAD) is a postgraduate program, and together with its Graduate Working Committee, comprised of its alumni, held its 20th Annual Conference, which focused on the topic of "Obesity and Diabetes."
The projected prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) in Central and South America by 2050 is 46%, while the global prevalence of overweight/obesity is estimated at 60%. This twin pandemic motivated the authors to present the topic discussed at one of the conference sessions: "Pharmacological and Surgical Therapies in Obesity and Diabetes."
Obesity and DM, so closely linked in their pathophysiology and treatment, prompted the authors to conduct a literature review with a high level of scientific evidence, resulting in an excellent publication that centers on the treatment of both diseases.
