The prevalence of diabetes is continuously increasing both globally and nationally, as demonstrated by the three National Risk Factor Surveys implemented by the National Ministry of Health: in the period 2005-2013, it increased from 8.4 to 9. 8%. This condition primarily manifests itself as type 2 diabetes (T2DM).
T2DM is usually accompanied by other cardiovascular risk factors (CVRF) that facilitate the development and progression of chronic complications, responsible for its high morbidity and mortality, economic cost and deterioration in quality of life. Although these complications can be prevented by adequate control of hyperglycemia and associated CVRFs, the majority of patients do not achieve therapeutic goals to achieve this. An important factor that contributes to this development is the frequent late diagnosis of the disease, even in the presence of clearly abnormal glycemic values.
