Strategies to prevent weight regain
The long term success of bariatric procedures depends on both technical factors and clinical, motivational and behavioral factors.
Although bariatric and metabolic surgery is an effective tool in the therapeutic arsenal of obesity, diabetes and other chronic diseases, between a 20% and 30% of patients show suboptimal results, including not reaching the desired weight loss o regaining weight.
The biggest challenge is that of adopting the required habits in the style of life. The successful weight maintenance is associated with a regular eating schedule, including breakfast, a physically active lifestyle and higher self-control of behaviors.
