Diabetes secondary to different types of transplantation
Post-Transplantation Diabetes Mellitus (PTDM) is a broadly reported complication that occurs following organ transplantation. The incidence of PTDM is estimated between 10-20% in kidney recipients and 30-40 in solid organ recipients, although significant variability has been reported. It has variably been reported to be associated with increased morbidity and mortality.
PTDM Incidence is affected by risk factors directly and indirectly associated to transplantation. Predisposing factors such as age, life style, genetic, family history, obesity contribute to increase the incidence of PTDM, however, factors related to the transplant setting are also to be considered as a causative factors.
