Psychosocial factors in childhood obesity: their impact on morbidity and mortality
Childhood obesity is a pandemic that continues to increase in almost the entire world. This type of malnutrition has a great impact on the health of children and adolescents and, in general, the health teams in charge of its treatment and prevention place more emphasis on its biological complications (for example, high blood pressure, diabetes ). However, several publications show greater morbidity in the area of mental health during childhood (low self-esteem, depression and school bullying).
To understand the genesis of this pathology, it is important to consider the development of eating behavior from the beginning of complementary feeding, an aspect that health professionals do not usually emphasize. Although we understand that “eating behavior” is a complex construct to evaluate, there are instruments that allow it to be measured, such as the Child Eating Behavior Questionnaire (CEBQ).
