In 2001, the 1st Survey on Diabetes Mellitus, Obesity and hypertension in Bolivia in people over 25 years of age showed a total prevalence of Diabetes mellitus in adults of 7.2% (7.6% women and 6.8% men), with 5.2% of diabetes diagnosed in the survey and 2% with previous diagnosis. In addition, 7.8% had glucose intolerance and 60.7% were overweight (56.6% men and 64.7% women); with differences by geographical area (1)
Municipal data as of 2018 shows that Non-communicable Diseases are concentrated in municipalities with higher socioeconomic levels. This reinforces the idea that the incidence of these diseases is related to lifestyles and other socioeconomic causes rather than biological causes, with hypertension and diabetes mellitus having a higher incidence (2).
