MAFLD is actually a main cause of chronic liver disease and is estimated that it would be the principal cause of liver transplantation. Metabolic associated fatty liver disease is diagnosed in patients with hepatic steatosis (diagnose by images, biomarkers, scores or biopsy) when they have the following three metabolic conditions: obesity/overweight, diabetes and metabolic dysregulation, either alone or in combination1.
MAFLD encompasses an spectrum that include the simple esteatosis (SE), steato-hepatitis (SH) and cirrhocis (CI) and have associated complications like hepatocarcinoma (HC).
