Dear members of the diabetes health team: with great enthusiasm and honor, I invite you to participate in the highly anticipated XI National Diabetes Meetings. As President of the Argentine Diabetes Society (SAD), it is a privilege to welcome you to this very special edition.
Since its inception, in Salta in 2003, these Meetingss have been a unique space to bring together our partners with a federal spirit and, over the years, we have visited various cities in the country, from Resistencia to Neuquén, passing through Tucumán, Saint John and Saint Louis. Now, with renewed enthusiasm, we will meet in the vibrant City of Buenos Aires to continue advancing together in the fight against diabetes.
The relevance of addressing this disease as a priority challenge in the field of health led to the expansion of our Meetingss in each chapter of the SAD. In addition, aware of the growing demand for information and updating by health personnel, we extend the invitation to other non-member professionals dedicated to the well-being of people with diabetes.
For this edition, the Scientific Commission, with the valuable coordination of Dr. Carla Musso, our Vice President, developed an extremely dynamic and enriching program. With a focus on the analysis of clinical trigger cases, we will explore how various members of the health team are affected by diabetes and its associated comorbidities. In particular, we will emphasize the relevance of healthy habits in the prevention and treatment of this disease. We will address a wide variety of aspects, from the clinical to advances in genetics, epigenetics, basic sciences and technology applied to diabetes, without forgetting the essential task of education in the comprehensive management of the disease.
In this edition we incorporate new and exciting sessions. On the first day, September 21 at 8:30 a.m., a session dedicated to “SAD Research” will be held, where the six subsidies awarded in 2021 will be presented. Then, at 10:00 a.m., an "integrative dialogue between basic and clinical SAD researchers" will be held and, subsequently, a Latin American Roundtable will be developed to address relevant issues in the region.
Since 2009, the SAD decided to strengthen research through the delivery of subsidies in basic, clinical and epidemiological areas. With great satisfaction, we inform you that on July 17, 2023, the call for this year was completed and seven subsidies were awarded, the winners of which will be announced at the Closing Ceremony of the XI National Diabetes Meetings.
At the XXIII Argentine Diabetes Congress, for the first time, we awarded the prestigious Bernardo Houssay Medal in basic research and Pedro Escudero in clinical research. These awards were given to two outstanding teachers from our community: Prof. Dr. Juan José Gagliardino, who received the Bernardo Houssay Medal, and Dr. Jorge Alvariñas, honored with the Pedro Escudero Medal. In this supplement of the SAD Magazine we will enjoy the Houssay lecture presented by Dr. Gagliardino, who shared his knowledge about “Diabetes: magnitude of the problem, its pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment”. We are deeply grateful for the invaluable contribution of these distinguished researchers to the science and advancement of the field of diabetes. His achievements and dedication have been exemplary, and his teachings continue to inspire future generations of healthcare professionals.
I express my deepest gratitude to the entire team of excellent professionals who have worked to enrich each of the scenarios proposed in the program. Their dedication and effort make possible this event that makes us so proud. This year's motto: "We do what we recommend" reflects the challenge we face as health personnel and the need to reinforce our own responsibility in healthy habits.
I also want to thank all the members of the Board of Directors, the coordinators, speakers and lecturers who agreed to participate in these Meetingss, whose commitment and collaboration are essential for the success of this event, as well as our secretaries, whose tireless effort is essential. to achieve our objectives.
We extend special recognition to the pharmaceutical industry and technology companies that provide their unconditional support in each project gestated, which allows these Meetingss to consolidate as a benchmark for scientific and technological updating in the field of diabetes.
We warmly welcome associations of people with diabetes, whose participation enriches our efforts and reinforces our commitment to the well-being of those who receive our care.
We hope you enjoy this meeting that will combine the best of science with camaraderie, creating a favorable environment for the exchange of knowledge and experiences. We count on your presence and enthusiasm to make this event an unforgettable experience.
