In the field of diabetes mellitus (DM) and nephrology, diabetic kidney disease (DKD) stands out as an unavoidable clinical challenge that requires a critical review of our current strategies. With the increasing prevalence of DM globally and its close interrelationship with chronic kidney disease, it is clear that healthcare requires a radical transformation to effectively address this complex pathology.
Current figures underline the magnitude of the problem: it is estimated that approximately one third or more of patients with DM2 face the risk of developing some degree of ERD, increasing their vulnerability to cardiovascular complications, recurrent hospitalizations, with a notable decrease in their quality of life. life. These statistics invite us to reflect on the trajectory followed to date and to question whether our conventional clinical practices are really addressing the complexity of this multifaceted pathology.
