Abstract

The prevalence of obesity varies with different ethnicities. Different cut-off points have been proposed for anthropometric values according to ethnic groups. Studies in our country showed a different distribution in anthropometric values in indigenous children compared to those of other regions of our country and those of the United States. Furthermore, different studies have shown that during the lockdown the prevalence of obesity increased significantly in childhood. The main risk factor for type 2 diabetes in childhood is obesity. Previous studies have shown that type 2 diabetes in children evolves in less time than in adults, and that the process is more aggressive. Risk factors for type 2 diabetes also vary with age, sex, and ethnicity in children. The SEARCH study showed that the prevalence of type 2 diabetes in children was higher in girls than in boys and that boys were more likely to have impaired fasting glucose while girls were more resistant to insulin. We are going to show the results obtained through the years in different populations of Argentina and abroad.
