The early diagnosis of the microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus (DM) allows us to carry out early treatment and prevent its progression. There is evidence that diabetic neuropathy has an insidious onset, which is prior to the increase in blood glucose, but other metabolic syndrome factors such as dyslipidemia, obesity and hypertension also concur, which impact on trophism and nerve irrigation1,2.
In relation to nephropathy, we know the importance of hyperglycemia in the development of this complication, including dysglycemia, considering it from 100 mg/dl3, all this while taking into account the genetic, epigenetic and inflammatory factors that influence the progression of nephropathy.
In conclusion, it is essential to highlight the importance of exhaustive evaluation of our patients with metabolic syndrome, with and without dysglycemia, in order to early detect microvascular complications.
