Abstract

Although the concept of angiosome was introduced from the Taylor and Palmer studies in 1987 to prolong graft survival in plastic surgery, it was not until 2001 that the six foot angiosomes were described and began to be used in reperfusion studies. of diabetic foot ulcers. Currently, greater emphasis is placed on the possible utility of direct revascularization of the angiosome corresponding to the ulcer territory in patients with diabetic foot in order to increase their speed and cure rates. The objective of this review is to define the concept of angiosome, describe the characteristics of angiosomes in the foot and review the studies that have been carried out so far on direct revascularization and its usefulness in diabetic foot.
