In the oral cavity there is a unique situation in our biology: the eruption of the dental organ, which crosses the connective and epithelial tissues creating a continuity solution and a serious risk to health.
As a counterpart to the vulnerability of this critical area, our body has developed a series of highly effective adaptation and defense mechanisms. Still, on many occasions, this barrier is insufficient and a chronic destructive disease of the dental support tissues is established: periodontal disease or periodontitis.
The primary etiology of periodontitis is given by the biofilm or biofilm of bacterial plaque, the presence of which triggers mechanisms of innate immunity that act immediately and induce a specific adaptive response.
