Abstract

6 voices in 10 minutes: Strategies for weight loss in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Strategies for diabetes reappearance prevention after remission

After bariatric surgery, many patients still suffer from diabetes or fail to maintain remission. Generally, weight regain coincides with the latter.

Regarding this, GRAVITAS trial showed liraglutide 1.8% effectiveness and safeness for treatment of patients with persistent or recurrent diabetes after bariatric surgery. It is a placebo-controlled, randomised and double-blind trial that enrolled adults from five hospitals located in London. They had RYGB or gastric sleeve antecedents and had persistent or recurrent type 2 diabetes as well as HbA1c levels above 6.5% at least a year after bariatric surgery. This trial showed in liraglutide 1.8 mg/day-treated patients a drop in glycosylated hemoglobin of 1.22% or 13.3 mmol/mol (95%CI: -19,7 to -7 with p=0.0001).
