Cognitive impairment

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), cognitive impairment (CD) and dementia (AD) are chronic pathologies with a high prevalence in people over 65 years of age.

Patients with DM2 and CD perform less self-care of their diabetes, increase use of the health system, and have greater dependency.

Systematic reviews and meta-analysis studies, which included more than 25 original papers and more than 2 million patients, estimated an increased relative risk for all types of dementia in patients with DM of 1.73 (95% confidence interval 1 .65-1.82).
