Abstract

6 voices in 10 minutes: Diabetic foot

Threatening chronic ischemia of the lower limb

The definition of threatening lower limb ischemia according to D-Foot International and the Federation of Societies for Vascular Surgery is defined as:

• Pain at rest.

• Absent pulses.

• Injury of more than two weeks of evolution.

• Ankle arm index less than 0.4.

The International Diabetic Foot Group advises referring any patient with an ulcer and vascular disease that does not heal after 6 weeks of medical treatment to a vascular surgeon. This disease is synonymous with non-healing of wounds, predisposes to infections and amputations, presenting a high risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.
