Prevention of hypoglycemia in young children
Hypoglycemia is a common complication in the treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM1) and interferes with daily activities and is often predictable. While they can rarely lead to permanent long-term sequelae, these hypoglycemias can be potentially serious. Due to the behavior of children of this age, it can often be difficult to identify the signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia to initiate immediate treatment.
Education is essential to prevent hypoglycemia and should be directed at parents, family members, teachers, professors, and caregivers in order to recognize the signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia and act quickly and appropriately.
