Abstract

The increased prevalence of overweight and obesity in the general population is a known fact and one of growing concern. Although the traditional idea is that people with type 1 diabetes (DM1) are usually thin, the prevalence of overweight and obesity increases in parallel, or even more than in the general population, as shown by several studies.

It is known that strict glycemic control prevents complications in this population, but it often leads to weight gain, as a result, on occasions, of overinsulinization, hypoglycemia, and defensive eating.
