Abstract

Advances in technology applied to diabetes have made it possible to improve treatment strategies in diabetes. In the pediatric population in particular, the use of continuous glycemic monitoring (CGM) demonstrates the importance of having information that allows a more precise and individual adjustment of the variables that cause glycemia, such as food intake and physical activity. The latest recommendations from the main scientific associations include the use of CGM for decision-making when determining insulin therapy in physical activity and in the prandial period, with the aim of reducing glycemic variability, improving time in range between 70-180 mg/dl and reduce the time in hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, by adapting the use of the CGM, taking into account the advantages and limitations with adequate education of the person with diabetes and their environment.

In this sense, knowing how to use this tool as a guide in making individual decisions, allows to strengthen the importance of administering the prandial bolus in advance even in young children and allows to interpret the impact of meals with a high load of carbohydrates, of fats and proteins and thus reduce the time in postprandial hyperglycemia and improve nutritional habits.
