Abstract

The development of civilization is associated with an increase in the age of the population. Today in Argentina, the elderly man (AM: person aged 65 years or older) has a life expectancy of 76 years and women 80 years, which represents 15% of the percentage of the population in large urban centers. It is estimated that the percentage of MA with diabetes mellitus (DM) is between 20-30%. This pathology, its comorbidities and complications (especially cardiovascular, infectious, cognitive and oncological) call for an effort from the health team and, especially, from people dedicated to this age group.

A multidisciplinary approach is important, adapted to the circumstances of the person and their sociocultural and economic situation, guiding primary, secondary and tertiary prevention resources.

In the face of constant change, the participation of the health team is currently required to provide answers to solutions where metabolic, cardiovascular, cognitive and mobility control tend to maintain the functional independence of the person in order to prioritize the safety of diagnostic techniques. and therapeutics in a framework of dialogue and agreements.
