Obesity (OB) is a chronic, relapsing, multicausal and multisystemic disease characterized by an abnormal/excessive accumulation of dysfunctional fat. Also is the main modifiable risk factor in the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D)1. The prevalence of both diseases is increasing rapidly and it is estimated that by 2045 there will be 783 million people with T2D2. This trend will be associated with increased mortality, cardiovascular risk and health costs. This has led to a constant search for therapeutic alternatives, and actually there are a lot of treatments for people with both diseases. These strategies include, low calories diet, medication and bariatric-metabolic surgery (BC); in all cases, the health team must carry out careful advice and develop personalized and multidisciplinary care plans.
Knowing the complex pathophysiology of T2D and its close link with OB, it factor must be taken into account when choosing T2DM treatment. As well as T2DM existence should be kept in mind when choosing OB treatment.
