Abstract

The endocrine and exocrine pancreas come from the same embryonic button and live in the same organ: the pancreas. However, in practice it is usual to approach endocrine diseases, such as diabetes mellitus, and exocrine ones, such as pancreatitis, in a completely independent way. However, at the present time, numerous siological and pathogenic mechanisms have been identified that relate the endocrine pancreas to the exocrine pancreas and that allow a better understanding of the link that unites the diseases of both.
