Glycemic monitoring is a fundamental pillar in the treatment of the patient with diabetes. Epidemiological studies such as the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial and the Epidemiology of Diabetes Interventions and Complications (DCCT / EDIC) demonstrated that to improve the degree of metabolic control in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM1) through intensive treatment With any of the insulin therapy modalities (MDI, multiple doses of subcutaneous insulin; ISCI, continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion) frequent measurements of capillary blood glucose daily are required and this information must be used to effect changes in the treatment.
