Abstract

The increase in the prevalence of obesity in type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM1) is alarming and is associated with insulin resistance similar to that observed in DM2, which led to its being considered “double diabetes”. Currently 50% of patients with DM1 are overweight or obese. Also the association with obesity has generated the development of dyslipidemia and macrovascular complications. Comorbidities associated with obesity reduce the benefits of good metabolic control, which is why the objective of the normal weight is important. The chronic and sustained pro-ammatory state of obesity is associated with cardiovascular disease.
